This work explores the interplay of light on the reflective surface of water. Depending on the time of day, the weather, and the qualities of the surface of water, different effects are produced. The oily surface of the Ganges at Varanasi, afternoon in late winter, produces a vastly different effect to the Ganges further upstream at Rishikesh as it blasts and tumbles out of the Himalayas blue from glacier melt, early winter early morning. South Beach and Leighton in Perth have different moods on the same day. This endless play of factors on a physical plane – the water’s surface - producing abstract shapes marks and colours that are frozen by the camera, is a deep absorption. This project has been about engaging with that absorption in the abstract by producing marks drawing in the viewer in.
