The universe is a closed system, what was present at the Big Bang remains and will do so until the Big Collapse. The interdependency of all things is seen at the atomic level. We were once stardust at the heart of the Big Bang, and on death our atoms will disperse and become something else. In the current time of global heating and mass extinction we are understanding interdependence. The ice in Antarctica fails to grow, which interrupts plankton blooms that feed the krill that feed the ocean. The heat from the sun is absorbed into the dark water, which interrupts ocean currents which causes devastating weather events. These systems of interdependence are also often hidden, like the copper wire of the technologies of extractive capitalism is so reliant on, or our nervous systems. Copper is extracted, processed and hidden under, over or between things to provide us with communication, electricity, sound, heat and water. Through the use of drawing and sculpting with copper and natural fibers, Lucy explores and visualises this notion of interdependency. Following an individual line, it entangles and interweaves with others surrounding it, which connects further and further into the work at large. Thoroughly interdependent.

Webs of interdependence are often hidden from sight, requiring a shift in view. Follow a thread and new connections are made, broadening and expanding until the whole appears again. When our viewpoint shifts, new connections are seen and our outlook adjusts and expands. How we direct our looking is in vital in the creation of new understandings and the rearrangement of assumptions.
